Chipley's Lady Tigers traveled to Santa Rosa
to take on the South Walton Lady Seahawks in the 3A Regional
Semifinals on Friday night. Chipley won 3-0.
Earlier in the season (February 14), Chipley defeated South
Walton and the Lady Seahawks had not lost since, going 23-1 on
the year.
Chipley's Jessica Bush had one of her best outings at the
right time. Bush struck out 10 and allowed only four hits
in seven innings while recording the shutout win. Bush
improved to 10-3 on the year.
Chipley's bats were silent most of the game as South Walton's
Shelby Watson held the Lady Tigers' bats at bay most of the
night. Heading into the top of the fourth inning both
teams were scoreless, and with two outs Skylar Davis reached
first on an error by the catcher and Rachael Fowler followed
that with a two-run homerun to left center field to put Chipley
up 2-0. The homerun was Fowler's fourth of the year and
second in the last two games.
In the Tigers' half of the seventh inning Davis singled,
Fowler doubled and Vanessa Hatcher singled to load the bases.
With two outs, Kassi Shackelford struck out, but the catcher
couldn't handle the pitch and the ball traveled to the backstop,
scoring Davis. That capped Chipley's scoring for the
evening.
Chipley improved to 20-5 on the year and will
host the Regional Finals next Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m.
Chipley will face Jacksonville Bishop Snyder (who also won 3-0
Friday night against Jacksonville Bolles). Please come out
and support our girls as they try to advance to the State Final
Four in Plant City.
