4-H’ers from Washington County had a chance to show
off their exhibits and skills at the annual North
Florida Fair in Tallahassee. 4-H’ers from over 20
counties in the Panhandle and Big Bend area compete for
prizes each year in competitions and with their fair
exhibits.
On 4-H Day at the Fair, teams from Washington County
4-H competed in the Consumer Judging Contest. This
contest is designed to test youth on their product
knowledge, savvy shopping skills and comparative
shopping. Competing in the contest were 4-H’ers
Joel Owen, Wesley Stucki, Tori Stucki, Lamar Stucki,
Adrian Allen, Samantha Raney, Kristine Stucki, Jessie
Owen and Mary Beth Minchin.
Senior
team members Samantha Raney, Tori Stucki and Kristine
Stucki placed 2nd overall in the Senior Division.
Intermediate
team members Joel Owen, Jessie Owen and Mary Beth
Minchin placed 3rd overall in the Intermediate Division.
Mary Beth Minchin placed 3rd High Individual.
In 4-H exhibits, youth enter their 4-H project work
to be judged. The Project Challenge 4-H Club, led
by Jennifer Sapp, had 39 members who entered a total of
275 entries and also constructed a club booth to
highlight their study of the science behind theme parks.
Project Challenge 4-H Club also visited the fair grounds
to see their exhibits. The Fire Ants 4-H Club had
five members who entered 32 entries. Malinda Locke
won a Merit Award for her sewing project, and Samantha
Raney earned a Merit Award for her quilting project.
