The work of America's 2.9 million registered nurses to save
lives and to maintain the health of millions of individuals is
the focus of this year's National Nurses Week, which will be
celebrated locally by Covenant Hospice May 6-12 and throughout
the United States. This year, the American Nurses
Association (ANA) has selected "Nurses: Making a Difference
Every Day" as the theme for 2008.
Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN
Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence
Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
During this week, registered nurses in Pensacola will be honored
by Covenant Hospice for their work with patients and families
who are dealing with end-of-life issues. Traditionally,
National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways
in which registered nurses, the largest health care profession,
are working to improve health care. From bedside nursing
in hospitals and hospice facilities to the halls of research
institutions, state legislatures, and Congress, the depth and
breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding
health care needs of American society.
Peggy Moore, director of Branch Operations for Covenant
Hospice states, “After working 30 years as a nurse, this group
of nurses is by far the most dedicated and caring team I have
ever had the privilege of working with.” Covenant Hospice
of Marianna employs 40 nurses. The nurses of Covenant
Hospice will be honored with a breakfast on May 6 and receive a
special token of appreciation.
