Anna Marie Harrell
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Anna Marie Harrell passed away Wednesday, February 3, at
the great age of 93 in Acworth, Georgia, just 10 days short
of her 94th birthday.
Born in 1916 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was an only
child, but had many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Melton
Harrell, and son, Charles Harrell.
Survivors include her sons: Melton Harrell (Deborah) of
Atlanta, Georgia, William Harrell (Robin) of Acworth,
Georgia, David Harrell (Sherry) of Lawrenceville, Georgia,
Kenneth Harrell of Chipley; Eva Harrell, widow of son
Charles of Cumming, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great
grandchildren.
Anna was a long-time resident of Chipley where she raised
her family. A gentle woman with a love for plants, she
operated her own nursery, Harrell's Nursery, for many years.
People knew her plants as "the plants that grow." She
had a will to live, having been diagnosed with breast cancer
in 1956, and subsequently given six months to live in 1981
due to another type of cancer.
Her God and church were always dear to her. She was
active in the establishment of Ascension Lutheran Church in
Marianna and Grace Lutheran Church in Bonifay.
Funeral services are to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,
February 6, at Grace Lutheran Church in Bonifay, followed by
burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley. The family
will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to services at
the church.
Her request was that donations be made to Grace Lutheran
Church, 3309 U.S. 90, Bonifay, FL 32425 (850-547-9898) in
lieu of flowers.
Brown Funeral Home of Chipley is in charge of
arrangements. Friends and family may sign the online
